The 7,000+ petition was handed to London assembly member Caroline Pidgeon this morning outside City Hall. Along with Islington Council, she will be pressing London Mayor Boris Johnson to instruct Transport for London (TfL) to replace Caledonian Station lifts one by one and keep the station open. We know this can be done. TfL has carried out a study. Closing the station for eight months would likely put one hundred and eight extra bus journeys (ninety each way), every day on congested Caledonian Road. This makes no sense and would be more expensive than keeping the station open and fixing the lifts one at a time.
