Transform Tulsa animal shelter to a no-kill facility

Transform Tulsa animal shelter to a no-kill facility
The Issue
Having experienced firsthand the transformative power of a rescue animal, I know the untapped potential that lies in every shelter dog and cat. My service dog, Lucy, who I rescued, brightens each day and has filled my life immeasurably. In light of this experience, I am compelled to advocate for the animals who end up in shelters, often through no fault of their own. These innocent creatures simply yearn for a loving human and a forever home.
The Tulsa Animal Shelter currently operates as a kill shelter, meaning that many otherwise healthy and adoptable animals are euthanized due to lack of space or resources. This heartbreaking reality can be changed, aligning our community with a growing national movement towards no-kill shelters. By transitioning to a no-kill shelter, Tulsa could save thousands of animal lives every year, offering these animals the chance at life they so deserve.
Moving to a no-kill model isn't just ethically compelling, it's feasible and has been successfully implemented in many cities across the United States. These cities have enhanced adoption programs, increased community involvement, and secured better funding for animal welfare. With dedication from our local government and the support of our community, Tulsa can become a compassionate leader in animal welfare.
Studies show that communities that have adopted no-kill policies have not only saved the lives of animals but have also benefited from increased local support, more volunteering opportunities, stronger communities, and better funded and supported shelter operations. Transitioning to a no-kill shelter could lead to improved lives for animals and humans alike.
To initiate this change, we need to:
1. Increase partnerships with local rescue groups and foster programs to boost adoptions.
2. Establish community outreach programs to educate the public on responsible pet ownership.
3. Seek funding and support from private and public sources to expand resources.
4. Advocate for spay/neuter programs to control the population of stray animals.
Let us come together as a community to make this dream a reality for Tulsa. By signing this petition, you are supporting a more humane future for our community's animals. Let's ensure that every dog and cat in Tulsa has the opportunity to find a loving family and a safe, permanent home. Please join me in this mission to save lives and spread compassion. Sign this petition to transform the Tulsa Animal Shelter into a no-kill facility.
