Alton Park, Chattanooga, has an underutilized asset: an abandoned swimming pool that is currently in a state of disrepair. This derelict space, once a site of community interaction and enjoyment, has unfortunately seen better days. But we see potential.

This is not a personal agenda, but a desire for improvement – an opportunity to breathe life back into this abandoned space by transforming it into a community basketball court. This not only repurposes the area but also provides a fitness and recreational hub for adults, teenagers, and children.

Basketball is one of the favorite sports in the USA, with about 26.4 million Americans playing it annually according to a SFIA report. Chattanooga should not be an exception. A basketball court could promote physical activity, provide a gathering point for the community, and stimulate neighbourly rapport while keeping potential illegal activities at bay.
