Transform Lenoir City for Pedestrians and Cyclists

Transform Lenoir City for Pedestrians and Cyclists
The Issue
As a college student working tirelessly to cover my tuition, I am acutely aware of the financial strain associated with owning and maintaining a vehicle. Lenoir City, my home and community, lacks infrastructure that would allow residents like me to live car-free comfortably. Developing pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and efficient bike paths outside of downtown, along with promoting affordable and denser housing, could change lives for individuals in similar or even more difficult financial situations.
Lenoir City, TN is growing, and with growth comes the opportunity to lead by example in environmental sustainability and urban development. Enhancing pedestrian and cycling infrastructure is not only imperative for those of us trying to save money but also for reducing the city's carbon footprint.
Statistics support that cities investing in biking infrastructure see a reduction in traffic congestion and air pollution. The U.S. Department of Transportation has found that increasing bike paths significantly decreases car dependency, which reduces carbon emissions and fosters healthier lifestyles. This transformation would make Lenoir City a safer, healthier, and more vibrant place for all residents to enjoy.
Moreover, safe and accessible biking and walking paths promote recreational activities, which lead to a higher quality of life. Parks and trails encourage community interactions and enhance real estate values.
Let us advocate for a city where we can walk and bike safely to schools, workplaces, and local businesses. I urge the local government to take action in updating and expanding sidewalks, creating effective bike paths, and encouraging denser, affordable developments in our city. These changes are not just beneficial but essential to our community's future.
Please join me in calling for Lenoir City to become a leader in sustainable and inclusive urban planning. Sign this petition to support pedestrian and cyclist-friendly initiatives that will pave the way for a more accessible, affordable, and environmentally friendly future for our beloved city.
