CONSULTATION UPDATE
With the backing of over 5,000 signatures on the petition to save George Carnall from closure Trafford Council carried out their promise to consult with the community over the future of the centre.
The result of the consultations was overwhelming support for George Carnall and for Trafford Leisure to abandon their plans to close the centre but regardless of this support Trafford Leisure are still insistent that when Urmston Leisure Centre reopens they will have no further involvement with George Carnall.
In view of this Trafford Council have been working to find a solution for the centre to remain open.
The decision they have come to is that George Carnall Leisure Centre will become a Community Asset Transfer for the benefit of the community.
Asset transfer is a process to allow a community organisation to take over publicly owned land or buildings.
As an organisation set up to save George Carnall from closure Trafford Council have given us the opportunity to take over the centre and go through the process of the transfer.
This could take several months so we are now working with Trafford Council to find a way for the centre to remain open until completion.
