UPDATE. RE-LATEST MEETING WITH ANDREW WESTERN/TRAFFORD LEISURE.
WED 23/8/18
Unfortunately its still not clear what the future holds for the centre.
One of the things we do know is that the Manchester Giants have been issued with a licence to play at the centre.
When it was announced that the Manchester Giants would be moving to the centre a statement issued then by the then Conservative Council informed us that the centre would still be available for community use and it did seem that that would be the case when towards the end of May Kate Green Labour MP held a meeting with John Dwan the CEO of the Giants and then updated us with their plans for the centre.
We were informed that they were committed to continued community use at the centre, same activities as now, same clubs etc because they needed the community use to make the site viable.
Trafford Leisure have now informed us that this will not be possible.
When the development at Urmston Leisure Centre is complete Trafford Leisure say they will hand back the George Carnall to the council as they will no longer wish to run the centre and that the Giants will not be allowed to run the centre in its present format as they would be in direct competition with Trafford Leisure. ( In other words to hell with the community and what we want )
Knowing Andrew Western as we do, we know that he will not be happy with this but with Trafford Council being the parent Company so to speak we understand that this will be a difficult situation for him but we also know that we couldn't have anyone better to help solve this to everybody's satisfaction.
Trafford Leisure are in the process of arranging a meeting with The CEO of the Giants for an update on their plans for the centre, thats assuming that they still intend to play basketball there in view of the fact that their original plans have now how you might say 'been kiboshed'.
Further meetings are planned with both Trafford Leisure and Trafford Council in the hope that there will be a satisfactory outcome for the community.
