I write this petition with a heavy heart, having recently lost my young cat Coco to a speeding car on Stanhope ring road. We are left with an empty space, his brother Oreo is missing him and not himself. Some people say it’s only a cat/pet and it can happen. I disagree our Coco was more than just a cat he was our best friend, when we were sad he would give so many cuddles when we were happy he was playful. This personal tragedy has highlighted an urgent need for change. The current legal speed limit on this road is 30mph, but without any enforcement measures such as speed bumps or cameras, drivers often exceed this limit with impunity. 

This isn't just about protecting our beloved pets; it's about the safety of our children and all residents of Ashford who use these roads daily. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), in areas where speed limits have been reduced from 30mph to 20mph, there has been a significant decrease in accidents.

Therefore, we are calling upon local authorities to lower the speed limit and introduce necessary enforcement measures on Stanhope ring road. By doing so, we can make our streets safer not only for animals but also for children and all pedestrians.
