Toxic Waste Disposal Site meters from our School, Aged Care Facility & Residental Homes.
The issue
On behalf of St Andrew's Grammar School and our Parent Community
WE MUST STOP the Development Application DA24/0287 for a (Change of Use) to a SOLID WASTE DEPOT Client: Brajkovich Landfill and Recycling Pty Ltd at 501 Alexander Drive & 272 Victoria Road, Mirrabooka.
The Development Application DA24/0287 is summarised as follows:
The application seeks approval to operate a Solid Waste Depot on the site, which forms part of the site’s landfill operations;
The proposed Solid Waste Depot will involve the sorting, segregating and temporary stockpiling of different waste materials brought to the site for the purposes of landfill;
Once sorted and stockpiled, any material suitable for re-use or recycling is removed from the site and the remaining material is deposited into landfill;
The sorting, segregating and stockpiling activities will be undertaken at the base of the existing excavation pit and screened from public view by the difference in site levels;
The operation of a Solid Waste Depot in very close proximity to our school St Andrew's Grammar, our Aged Care Facility and surrounding residential homes, businesses and communities poses significant health, safety and environmental risks to everyone of all ages.
If the operation goes ahead there will likely be adverse health and environmental effects, particularly with the quality of air we breathe (air pollution), inevitable risk of contamination to groundwater sources from leachate generated by waste materials decomposition (water pollution) and the storing of Asbestos is highly dangerous and deadly if not managed correctly. Furthermore, exposure to heavy metals, hazardous substances, traces of harmful pollutants and xenobiotic chemicals in our soil (land pollution) and the release of greenhouse gases, contributing climate change.
THIS IS SERIOUS!!
Exposure is associated with health problems such as respiratory symptoms; irritation of the skin, nose and eyes; gastrointestinal problems; fatigue; headache; psychological disorders; and allergies. More severe exposure can result in cancers, genetic mutations and serious disease.
The sorting, segregating, and stockpiling of waste materials can lead to unpleasant odors, noise pollution and an increased risk of vermin infestations.
We urge all St Andrews Grammar Management, Staff and Families, Hellenic Aged Care Management and Residents, St Andrews Estate Residents, Families from surrounding areas, Community Members, Businesses, Employees, Sporting Associations and First Line Responders, to sign this petition to prevent the Development Application DA24/0287 - Solid Waste Depot from going ahead and compromising our health, well-being and quality of life.
Help us make a change and protect our loved ones.
