Why this petition matters

Started by Cal Rickon

The Township of Langley is diverse and welcoming, and it's important for our community and neighbours that we are seen as such. The municipality, incorporated almost 150 years ago, and known as "The Birthplace of BC" has a rich heritage and vibrant vision for the future.

This community must be welcoming to all, and provide safe haven to all. Still, we must remain cognizant that there are members of the community that don't share all these values. All are welcome, but not all our welcome on our street signs.

Jessica Yaniv, now Simpson, has received a conditional sentence for possession of an illegal weapon and is currently facing assault charges. They are also the subject of multiple lawsuits, and when they brought 16 women before the Human Rights Tribunal, it was stated that racism was a motive.

We must encourage Ms. Simpson's growth and betterment, but until such time, her name should not be displayed on our street signs. We ask the Township of Langley to remove Simpsons name and business name from all adopt a street signs in the township immediately.
