STOP VERIZON CELL PHONE TOWER - HILLSBOROUGH, NJ 100% RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD

The Issue

Get involved and unite against Verizon Wireless erecting a 126-150 FT cell phone tower in a 100% residential neighborhood located at the Woods Road Firehouse.  This will set a dangerous precedent in Hillsborough and the first time in Somerset County that a cell phone tower would be located in a purely residentially zoned area.  Will the next tower be in your backyard and near your child’s school?

Township ordinances and variances which will be broken include (but not limited to):

-  Cell Towers are strictly prohibited in residential districts

-  1000 feet to a residence.  This tower will only be 120 feet away

 -  2000 feet from a school.  This tower will be 940 feet from property line of Woods Rd. Elementary School

-  Height variances of 35 feet (2-1/2 stories).  This tower will be 126 - 150 feet ( 9 to 10-1/2 stories)

 - Verizon is also requesting Waivers for: Environmental and Community Impact Assessments & Statements, Landscaped Buffer Zone, and Drainage Calculations.

Possible links to serious health issues due to cell phone tower radiation exposure.  Even the International Association of Fire Fighters opposes cell phone towers at fire stations until they are PROVEN NOT TO BE HAZARDOUS to health and well-being of Fire Fighters.

Other hazards of cell phone towers such as collapse, fire, noise, etc.

There are other technical options to improve cell phone coverage- such as  Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) which are small antenna systems attached to telephone poles- per Verizon Wireless and other RF experts.

Decrease of property values of residences up to 22% in neighborhoods with cell phone towers.  This is money people were counting on for retirement or kids’ college tuition.

The Woods Rd. Volunteer Fire Department costs are already paid for by taxpayer money which includes equipment, training, vehicles, tools, and other miscellaneous expenses.  Residents also offered to fund raise on behalf of the volunteer firemen for any additional financial requirements.  The Fire Department refuses to disclose how much money they will receive from Verizon for the tower, at the expense of their neighbors.

Did anyone really move to Hillsborough to have a view of a cell phone tower outside their front door and near their children’s elementary school and suffer these consequences?  Please join your neighbors in opposing Verizon and the Woods Road Firehouse from erecting this cell phone tower and keep the integrity of our beautiful town of Hillsborough and its residents.
