Today, Monday, July 27, 2015 the Union County Superior Court granted Providence VFD a temporary Restraining Order (TRO) until the trial for pending lawsuits, which prevents the Town of Weddington from selling the building on Hemby Road, currently being used as Station 32 for PVFD.
As part of the remedy to damages incurred through the Breach of Contract and Fraud lawsuit filed by Providence VFD, ownership of this building would be restored to PVFD.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 29th Providence VFD will be vacating the building by court order and handing occupancy over to Wesley Chapel VFD.
An informal closing ceremony is being planned at 10:45PM to lower the flag at the station. Chief Kenny Schott will share some thoughts with those present. At midnight the apparatus will be leaving. The public is invited to participate in this solemn event and asked to be at the station no later than 10:30PM.
The emergency vehicles will depart Hemby station at midnight, turn left onto Weddington-Matthews Road, turn right at the Seminary and turn right onto Chestnut Street.
If you can't make the closing ceremony feel free to honor the 61 years of service Providence VFD has provided to this community by safely observing along this route.
The organization of Providence VFD is still intact and more focused than ever to fight the actions of this council and restore rightful ownership of the building to Providence VFD. Councilwoman Pamela Hadley has supported THE PEOPLE throughout our struggle and will continue to work on behalf of public safety and fiscal responsibility to hold accountable those responsible. To that end, she is now running for Mayor against Bill Deter, our current Mayor.
Councilwoman Harrison (who made the motion to cancel the contract with PVFD) is also running for re-election against a Providence VFD supporter and longtime resident, Janice Propst. Walker Davidson has also filed for this seat.
In District 2, Mikki Weaver, an avid supporter of Providence VFD is running against Scott Buzzard and Liz Callis.
November is shaping up to be an interesting month. But let's first focus on honoring the dedicated men and women that have served our community over the last 6 decades.
God speed!! We are not done!
