I talked to Bill Caldwell, town administrator, today about the timing of the light situation and what was talked about at the DPW meeting on Tues., Aug. 9. He told me that the survey to find out about this intersection has to be brought up on a line item for the DPW budget and has to be approved to be paid for at the Annual Town Meeting next May. The process starts around December to put articles on the town warrant. So this is a process of being able to spend tax dollars. It has to be approved by the registered voters.
So what needs to be done is we need to advocate for this to be a line item on the budget to become a warrant article. Otherwise, the survey won't even have a chance to be done because it costs money to have someone come out and find out if the timing is adequate or needs to be changed.
If it doesn't end up becoming a warrant article, then we have the option of doing a citizen's petition to bring it forth in the annual town meeting.
Supposedly the battery has been fixed, but we don't know for sure because it hasn't been specifically relayed to me by Ryan Mouradian or anyone else that has actually been in conversation with the consultant that discovered the dead battery.
So I will mark my calendar for December to make sure I don't let this issue fall off my radar and bring it up to the DPW and town in December to make sure it gets on as a warrant article for May, 2023 town meeting.
