Help divert the 6 million pounds of textiles that end up in Norwalk's solid waste stream

The Issue

We have a problem! Did you know that every US citizen is discarding an average of 81 pounds of unwanted clothing and shoes every year? This equates to 26 billion pounds in the USA every year ending up in our solid waste stream. Yes, this is true! The EPA is telling us that the fashion industry is the second largest polluter, right behind fossil fuels, when measuring carbon footprints. We, as the consumers, must do something to help.

Bay State Textiles has one solution to this big problem -- it's very successful textile recycling program in Massachusetts. Bay State currently services over 650 schools. "Our students are learning about textile recycling and teaching mom and dad not to throw their unwanted textiles into the trash." Thanks to the schools that host Bay State Textiles' recycling bins, we have been able to divert 20 million pounds of textiles from the solid waste stream in the past year alone. We don't want to stop there!

Do you want to help Norwalk reduce the almost 6 million pounds of unwanted clothing and shoes that end up in the solid waste stream? Sign this petition and share it with all of your friends and family. Sometimes the residents need to send a message of change to local government. Help us help the City of Norwalk.
