Thank you for sharing the petition with me. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns and perspective.
As you know, this is a Council-initiated item, with the Mayor serving as the primary initiator and me as the second. The item will come before the full Council for discussion and deliberation, and ultimately, the Council will determine the outcome through a vote.
Given the growing needs of our town, these are not easy decisions. As the Mayor has shared during Council meetings and in other forums, we will likely face the need for another tax increase next year if we are unable to identify alternative funding sources to support critical infrastructure and other community priorities. One approach is to carefully review assets the Town has acquired over the years, evaluate how they are currently being used, and determine whether retaining them continues to serve the best interests of our residents.
For me, this property is part of that broader conversation. My goal is to explore whether we can recover taxpayer funds from this investment and redirect those resources toward current priorities, rather than relying solely on additional tax increases.
I recognize that you and I may view this issue differently, and I respect that. I also want you to know that my perspective is informed by additional context and information available to me through my role on Council, some of which may not yet be part of the broader public discussion. I will continue to approach the matter thoughtfully and with the best interests of Cary residents and taxpayers in mind.
