I, like many others, no longer feel safe venturing out with my children due to the alarming surge in knife crimes in and around London and throughout the UK. We've had enough! According to the Office for National Statistics, knife crime rose by 6% in the year ending March 2020, with the majority of incidents taking place in London. This critical national issue begs for immediate change in our justice system.

We implore the government to intensify its stance against all crimes, particularly knife crimes. The current penalties no longer serve as a sufficient deterrent. We are calling for stricter laws that go beyond short-term imprisonment. Knife crimes that devastate lives should be met with a life sentence to underscore the seriousness of these offences.

By introducing firmer sentencing, we can make potential offenders scrutinize the repercussions of their actions more seriously. According to studies, harsh sentences could indeed reduce crime by keeping criminals off the street and deterring potential criminals. More stringent policies are part of the solution to reducing the fear of crime within our community and making our streets safe again.
