Tortured to Death: Stop the Slaughter of India's Wildlife – Enforce Capital Punishment Now

The Issue

India is witnessing a horrifying rise in brutality against animals. In the recent incident in Chhattisgarh, a sloth bear — a Schedule I protected species — was tied, tortured, and beaten to death on camera. The images are disturbing, but even more disturbing is the silence in our laws and justice system.

This is not an isolated case. Bears, elephants, dogs, leopards — across the country, animals are being abused, maimed, and killed, often for pleasure, money, or ignorance. The current punishment under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 is woefully outdated — with fines as low as ₹50 to ₹500 for heinous acts. This must change.

We, the people of India, demand:

Capital punishment or life imprisonment in cases of extreme cruelty and torture toward animals.
An urgent amendment to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act with stricter penalties and faster legal processes.
Mandatory psychological evaluation and blacklisting of offenders from pet ownership, animal trade, or forest access.
A dedicated national wildlife crime control and enforcement unit.
Nationwide campaigns to promote compassion, co-existence, and wildlife awareness.
Animals have the right to live with dignity — just like we do. If we remain silent, we are complicit.

Sign this petition to demand justice and protect those who cannot speak for themselves.
