Background
The International Baccalaureate, offered at Parkdale Collegiate Institute, is an innovative and academically enriched program with a large proportion of immigrants and racialized students. The Toronto District School Board has been offering IB programs for free for years as an equity initiative. IB makes up 50% of PCI's student population and reflects the working-class and culturally diverse character of the school's immediate neighbourhood. Parkdale families have rallied together against the imposition of IB fees ($3000 per student). The next stage: to strike or not to strike?
