The issue

Toowoomba has only one emergency vet clinic for thousands of pets — and it’s not enough. Our growing community deserves reliable, accessible, around‑the‑clock care so no pet owner is ever left feeling helpless in a crisis. We’re calling on the Toowoomba Regional Council and Queensland Government to fund and support a second 24/7 emergency veterinary service for the safety of our pets and peace of mind for every family.

In the heart of Toowoomba, our pets are not just animals — they are cherished members of our families. I learned this painfully recently. When my girl needed urgent medical attention, I realised just how vulnerable we are with only one 24/7 emergency vet clinic in our entire region. The lack of clarity, safety, and a straightforward triage plan left me gripped with anxious uncertainty. No pet owner should ever have to face that feeling.

Our community is growing, and so is the number of pets who rely on competent, immediate emergency care. Yet we have only one clinic operating around the clock, trying to serve thousands of families. It’s an impossible load for one provider and an unfair risk for pet owners. Our animals deserve better — and so do we.

The Toowoomba Regional Council and Queensland Government have the power to change this. With targeted funding and incentives, they can attract another provider to establish a second 24/7 emergency vet clinic. This would strengthen emergency response, reduce pressure on the existing service, and ensure long‑term stability for essential after‑hours care.

Other regions with multiple emergency clinics have seen real improvements: shorter wait times, better access to specialised care, and stronger community confidence. Toowoomba should not fall behind in the standard of care we owe our pets.

Imagine a community where, in moments of fear and desperation, help is unquestionably available — where compassionate, professional emergency care is guaranteed, not hoped for.

By signing this petition, you’re joining me in calling on our local council and state government to act now. Let’s stand together for what matters most: the health and safety of our pets, and peace of mind for every family in Toowoomba.
