Last night Richard Selkirk , West Malling Parish Councillor presented the petition to the Full Council at Tonbridge & Malling. A copy of his transcript can be found below. Russell from the West Malling Chamber of Commerce also spoke. Unfortunately, in the brief debate afterwards, the Leader of the Council dominated the available time, restricting the amount of free debate. Sophie Shrubsole spoke in our support as did Trudy Dean. However this appeared to be a done deal as the rest of the Conservatives followed the party line and voted for it. This even included one of our OWN Borough Councillors. Sasha Luck voted FOR the introduction of parking charges ! Brian Luker our other Borough Councillor did NOT support us either. He abstained from voting. We did however get support from Cllr Bishop (Larkfield South), Cllr Oakley (Larkfield South), Cllr Roud (East Malling), Cllr Shrubsole (West Malling & Leybourne) and Cllr Taylor (Borough Green). Please don't think this fight is over, it is not. We have plenty more to do, including responding to the formal consultation. To that end, we intend as a Parish Council to FORMALLY submit your details registering you as AGAINST the proposal in response to the formal presentation.
