After persistent efforts, including sending letters to the Chief and Mayor and posting flyers of the petition near the police station, I finally received a response from the investigating officer in Tomasso's case. However, the response was lacking in substance, with the officer merely reiterating the challenges of securing charges in cases like these and quoting statistics on Drug Delivery Resulting in Death (DDRD). I made it clear that I am well aware of the statistics, but I will not be deterred from seeking justice for my son. In fact, the officer's admission that only six individuals have been charged with DDRD since 2019 in our area suggests a glaring need for change.
The lack of consequences for drug dealers emboldens them to continue their deadly trade, and I believe that a lack of expertise in investigating these cases hinders progress. Notably, a recent DDRD charge was brought in nearby Mahanoy City, although it has yet to be prosecuted, which suggests that it is possible to hold dealers accountable. I suspect that Tomasso's past legal issues may have contributed to a lack of rigor in the investigation, but I will not rest until justice is served - not just for my son, but for all families who have suffered similar tragedies. I will continue to push for change and accountability, no matter how far I need to go!
