Making it illegal to leave a child alone in a vehicle in Indiana
The Issue
Currently there are only 20 states in the U.S. with laws against leaving young children alone in a vehicle. Indiana is not one of those states. How many times have you seen on the news that a child has lost their life after a parent, their very protector, has somehow forgotten them in the back seat? We have seen this countless times whether the child/ren pass due to extreme heat or extreme cold, something has to change! Our children are our future and without them we have nothing. I propose a law be made with age restrictions on when a child can be left unattended in a vehicle. If a child is still in a 5 point harness seat, they likely cannot get themselves out if they need to due to heat or cold. I also propose harsher penalties for these parents or caregivers. This is negligence at its worst, and maybe if they had harsher consequences they would think twice before “forgetting” their child/ren!
