Mum & Carer Carolann Bowers saw the new facility at Tilgate Park Crawley West Sussex and shared her reason for being delighted that things are changing...
"It's great to see more and more of these accessible toilets, my son is now 50 and I remember the struggles we've had over the years negotiating filthy toilets where there was hardly enough room for one able bodied person let alone someone in a wheelchair. Back then we were so restricted in where we could go but wherever we went always took a bag with spare terry nappies, (no disposables until he was 17) a bottle of diluted dettol and cloths, (no antibacterial wipes or kitchen roll) marigold rubber gloves(no latex ones back then either) If you've never had to consider the pros and cons of going on a day trip with someone in a wheelchair you have no idea what it's like and unless you are that person in the wheelchair you can't imagine the humiliation of not being able to find a toilet."
