Paul Bosworth has the terminal rare asbestos caused cancer, mesothelioma. He has had standard chemo treatment and also been on a trial. Non have worked, he is now trying a drug called Keytruda that has had success in treating melanoma, and is now on the the PBS for that disease. Unfortunately Keytruda has hardly been trialed for use on mesothelioma, with its first small trial now coming to a close after 2 years, and a 2nd trial just started across the world on a relative small number of sufferers. This means the maker of Keytruda have not applied to put it on the PBS as they do not have the actual trial evidence to warrant applying. What it does mean is that Mr Bosworth is paying $5,000 every 3 weeks to give himself a chance to survive, instead of $6.00 if it was on the PBS for mesothelioma. Why is he doing this? Because, although there is no evidence at this stage to suggest Keytruda is a life saving drug when it comes to treating mesothelioma, there is enough evidence to indicate it has extended, and given a better quality of life to some sufferers of mesothelioma. What it has done, is given hope!!
This really does hi-light what our petition is about - Keytruda may be the Holy Grail for sufferers of mesothelioma and many other rare diseases, but we just don't know, as it has not been trialed enough.
We need the government to fund trials and streamline the PBS application process and requirements, so people like Mr Bosworth and his family can have HOPE - the same hope as given to sufferers of more prevalent diseases.
Please sign and share our petition, and ask your friends and networks to do the same.
After all, life really is about having, and giving hope!
Thank you my friends.
