We are very close to 27,000 signatures, but if we are to get the government to put permanent changes in place, we will need many more signatures. As it stands now, drugs such as Keytruda, which have had very little trialing on specific rare diseases (such as mesothelioma), are a guessing game when it comes to treating these rare diseases - this can be very cruel to sufferers and their loved ones. They show benefits on treating some diseases but not at all on other diseases - they work well on some people, but not at all on others with the same disease! But what these drugs do, is offer hope! We desperately need these drugs to be trialed a lot more to find out if they are viable treatment options, and if so, for whom - the only way to take the guess work out of it, is to run trials. The whole system around trials and getting treatments onto the PBS needs an urgent overhaul. The Australian Government and those responsible for the regulative authorities must act now to subsidise trials of these drugs, and amend the application requirements so it is possible for pharmaceutical companies to apply to register these drugs for the PBS. I have put together charts that show how unfair and lopsided the trialing system is. They clearly show why cancers such as melanoma and prostate are in the top three cancers for 5 year survival rates - and why people with rare and less common diseases are treated like 2nd class citizens. WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE OUR PETITION. Thank you, Rod Smith Awareness and Support Co-ordinator Bernie Banton Foundation
