This week 1000s of you signed this about BBC3 - http://bit.ly/1EQr5YN. But we need more. We’ve got a good idea of what it’ll be like without BBC3 already. Reading & Leeds today will air late night on BBC4. You’ll see practically no mention of this today (nothing on BBC Three’s social media, and BBC Four doesn’t use Twitter). I expect many will tune into Three tonight expecting the wall-to-wall coverage of this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival. Instead BBC3 will show the very same movies it aired last week – and festival headliners will appear late night on BBC4 with some red button coverage sandwiched in between sport and cooking (because there isn’t enough broadcast space as it is). I guess this is an attempt to push people online, and increase viewers on BBC4 (it doesn’t get as many as BBC3). If you’re sick of the BBC side-lining us you’ll want to do something about it. So please sign this to fire off an email to the BBC - http://bit.ly/1NXXsdf (it takes 30 seconds). And then click here to send off a pre-written tweet to alert others about it – http://ctt.ec/OaPem The BBC are doing their best to avoid the biggest hits appearing on BBC3 so that they can get the viewing figures down to justify closing the TV channel. That’s why new Family Guy episodes, Hair, and Good News moved to BBC2, and it’s why Don’t Tell the Bride is moving to BBC1. But their strategy has failed – this week Broadcast Magazine revealed significantly fewer 16-34 year olds watched those shows compared to BBC3 airings. If you think this all sounds ridiculous *do something about it*. Until this week the BBC downplayed the new consultation because if we’re successful the BBC Trust could overturn the proposals forcing them to reinvest in BBC3 documentaries, dramas, comedies, and music programming. If the thousands from our petition don’t do this next step the BBC can claim we’re all happy with their proposals.
