It has been nearly two months since we handed in the #SaveBBC3 petition to the BBC Trust, and the concerns over the future of BBC3 continue to make headlines. I'm particularly concerned that while the BBC Trust is yet to make a decision, the BBC is trying to slowly dismantle the channel.
We now know that the BBC has allowed Family Guy and American Dad to slip out of its grasp to ITV. This means a future on free-to-air television, but it means adverts throughout the shows, and away from the home where it has been for over a decade. The commissioning of new shows we're told is being cut back with the first casualty being In The Flesh. As for other great shows like Russell Howard's Good News and Backchat? It's been moved to BBC2 - away from the channel aimed at young adults.
How can the BBC press ahead with this without an official decision from the BBC Trust? Why hasn't it so far listened to the 270,000 people who want to keep BBC3 where it is? The BBC is owned by us, not the elite men in suits at the top like Lord Hall. There is still a strong chance the BBC Trust could overrule this decision, but it needs to be made as soon as possible.
Tweet the BBC Trust demanding the BBC stops the dismantling of BBC3 and that a decision is made to keep it on-air as soon as possible. Just click here - http://ctt.ec/6JwqE - to automatically tweet from your computer or phone.
I will keep you informed of further developments as the campaign continues.
