To School Boards, Districts & Decision-Makers: P.E. Is Not Optional — It’s Survival

To School Boards, Districts & Decision-Makers: P.E. Is Not Optional — It’s Survival
The Issue
Hi, I’m Danielle Bloom https://daniellebloom.com, and I’m raising my voice about something we can’t afford to ignore.
Across the country, there's a growing push to eliminate physical education from public schools. This isn’t just a policy shift.
It’s a threat to our kids' health, strength, and future.
What happened to P.E.? It's losing ground in our push for academic improvement.
Cutting P.E. means cutting off access to strength, discipline, and mental clarity — the very tools kids need to survive and succeed The Benefits of P.E.
P.E. teaches more than physical fitness.
It teaches grit. Focus. Emotional release.
It’s where kids learn how to fall, get back up, and keep going together.
According to "The National Institute of Health," 1 in 5 children and adolescents are obese- https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/overweight-and-obesity/childhood-obesity
A study showed students who engaged in physical activity improved their academic achievement by 6%--Can Exercise make you smarter?
The science is clear: when kids move, their minds work better.
Regular physical activity boosts focus, sharpens memory, and improves behavior in the classroom.
P.E. isn’t a break from learning — it’s a gateway to learning.
And beyond the classroom, it lays the foundation for a stronger life — reducing the risk of chronic disease and building habits that last long after the final bell rings.
Want to get an "A"? Exercise an hour a day!
Why does physical inactivity drain human brain power?
The adults in the room set the tone.
If we show kids that movement is essential, not optional, they’ll carry that strength with them for life.
The habits kids build now become the armor they wear for life.
Getting them moving early doesn’t just boost fitness — it sharpens focus, lifts mood, and teaches them how to handle stress, not just avoid it.
Movement isn’t just good for them.
It’s imperative.
Exercising early in life may help promote a healthy brain and metabolism.
Exercise makes kids' brains more efficient.
The Benefits of Exercise in the Classroom - Effects of Exercise on Learning and Education
Delaying action on this doesn’t just hurt now, it sets a dangerous tone for the future.
It tells kids their health doesn’t matter.
It tells them that movement is extra.
That burnout, disconnection, and low self-worth are just part of growing up.
We can’t let that become the message.
That’s why I’m calling for an increase in P.E. to at least three days a week.
Because every student, no matter their skill, size, or background, deserves access to movement, strength, and the chance to reconnect with their body.
And while we’re at it, let’s bring nutrition education into the room too.
Kids today are surrounded by fast food, confusion, and toxic body messages.
Let’s give them real knowledge, not shame.
Let’s teach them how to fuel, not fear, their bodies.
We need consistent funding. Real resources. Real leadership.
This isn’t a luxury; it’s survival.
Strong bodies. Clear minds. Balanced lives. That’s the goal.
If you believe our kids deserve more than burnout and stillness.
If you believe they deserve tools, not just tests.

Let’s make sure this generation doesn’t just grow up, they grow strong.
