The Issue

I'm deeply concerned about the impact of GoGuardian/Internet Content Management Systems (ICMS) on the students of Lewis County Schools, KY. As a student, I've realized that while GoGuardian was initially implemented to ensure a safe and focused learning environment, it has crossed the boundaries of student privacy and accessibility to educational resources.

Many parents, students, and teachers have noticed that GoGuardian’s monitoring software is not just viewing students' computer screens, but it is also tracking their every move online. This has led to a significant invasion of privacy, which is a fundamental right that our students deserve to protect. The feeling of being constantly watched can create an atmosphere of distrust and anxiety among students, leading to a decrease in their ability to learn effectively.

Furthermore, GoGuardian often blocks access to legitimate educational content that is vital for academic growth. Teachers have raised concerns about the limitations it imposes on their teaching capabilities as essential resources and learning materials are unnecessarily blocked, causing disruptions in the teaching process.

A study by the Electronic Frontier Foundation highlighted that such surveillance tools could hinder students' learning experiences and potentially expose sensitive data. Numerous schools across the country have successfully maintained student safety without intrusive monitoring tools like GoGuardian by employing alternative strategies focused more on education rather than surveillance.

I believe it’s time to reevaluate the use of such technology in our schools. Instead of a tool that blinds our students from valuable knowledge and chips away at their privacy, let us invest in better digital etiquette education and more secure, non-intrusive software solutions.

We urge the U.S. and/or KY Senate and House to consider these alternatives and stop using GoGuardian/ICMS in our schools. Let us protect children's privacy and their right to quality education.

Please join me in signing this petition to remove GoGuardian from all school districts, so we can preserve both the educational integrity and personal privacy of students. Your signature can help us make this important change.
