Thank you for all your great support to make this possible. Our petition has reached another milestone, this time getting well over 10,000 signatories after six months of campaigning.
Special thanks to organisations like HPARA, MyAHPRA, HEIA, AMA, and the media and the social blogs for raising public awareness on this issue.
Please find the time to read the comments posted in the petition, and share your comments too. Public awareness is very important to spread our message that bullying is endemic and must be stopped, and our Health Ministers need to take appropriate action.
We look forward to the upcoming HEIA National conference in Melbourne on 13 April 2019 to address this issue.
There are still lots of work for us to do to progress further as AHPRA and the various boards seem to shy away from this matter on endemic systemic bullying and try to distract the public on other trivial matters.
Dr Isis Maitland-Scott said in her recent publication on Medical Observer that 'This isn't burnout. It's abuse...Under pressure, senior doctors can lose their best selves. But their abuse must stop and compassion be given to all involved.' Clinical Professor Leanne Rowe wrote on the recent MJA Insight publication, calling out 'Endemic medical workplace bullying. Too many people have been hurt. It stops now.'
The Australian Dental Association (ADA) has issued a report card on the performance of the professional regulator for dental practitioners, the Dental Board of Australia, which shows it is failing in its role of protecting the public. 93% of the ADA member dentists have lost faith in the Dental Board's ability to protect the public.
With over 10,000 people signing this petition, AHReform will call on our Health Ministers from the commonwealth, states & territories to heed the public call for urgent health regulatory reform and to consider a royal commission before we see more doctors and healthcare professionals being seriously harmed by our dysfunctional health regulation, and more patient care by our caring doctors being compromised.
If you, or people you know, are affected by the current regulatory system, AHReform would like to hear your case or opinion, whether you are a doctor, a nurse, an allied health professional or a member of the public.
