To the ambivalent readers from OIST: We understand that you might not be convinced of the merit of such a public confrontation. Why not wait for the announced investigation? Why take this outside?

Let us explain. First, we encourage you to read all of the investigative articles on Medium by Lina Franklin, to fully grasp the extent of fraud and institutional damage that go well beyond the stock images. All the 6 initiatives under ROZ contain unverifiable claims of outcomes and impact. And when concerns were raised internally, more than two years ago, no public acknowledgement or investigation followed, but a silent edit on the press release and continued public promotion.

What does this mean? It means that one fraudulent aspect of the initiative was quietly acknowledged (or at the very least suspected) by the section responsible for press releases. And yet, it was apparently decided it did not merit in-depth investigation and immediate pause of the activities. Any effect of damage-control the edit might have had is negated anyways by the fact that this specific fraudulent aspect continued to be presented as fact on public forums anyway (i.e. UN Science Summit).

This is not naivety. No, this is lack of accountability at the very high expense of long-term credibility and trust that affects all of us. At OIST, the non-functioning state of the official channels have become far too pervasive to be just a bug or a blip. It has become an institutional feature or culture. Let us be clear: the public exposure and anonymous commentary arose only after internal channels proved unresponsive—a systemic failure that left community members with no other avenue for accountability. It was public pressure that led to the investigation. The point is to maintain it to ensure that the investigation is of highest quality.

Signing this petition is not a malicious attack on OIST and its honest workers. It is a demand that OIST live up to its own ideals. It is a call to repair the very institutional culture that allowed this to happen in the first place.

その理由をご説明いたします。まず、ストック画像の問題をはるかに超えた、詐欺と組織的損害の全容を把握するため、リナ・フランクリンによる Medium 上の調査記事をすべてお読みになることをお勧めします。ROZ の 6 つのイニシアチブはすべて、成果と影響について検証不可能な主張を含んでいます。2 年以上前に内部で懸念が提起された際、公式の発表や調査は行われず、プレスリリースが密かに編集され、公的なプロモーションが継続されました。
