TO MAKE STOCKPORT HOMES ALLOW CAT/DOGS IN COMMUNAL FLATS

TO MAKE STOCKPORT HOMES ALLOW CAT/DOGS IN COMMUNAL FLATS
The Issue
The only main reason in the tenancy agreement is because shared communal area and entrance. This is a discrimination policy against responsible pet owners. Stockport homes allow people to keep dogs/cats in flats witch is none shared entrance ( own front door). this could be a smaller flat such as a bedsit who still have access into the communal entrance via fob so why should we not be allowed what is the difference.
the benefits of having dogs/cats varies in a wide range of reason such as:
mental health this could be for example somebody suffering anxiety/depression having a dog or cat can help with:
- Increasing your physical activity.
- Providing companionship.
- Reduce anxiety.
- Boosting self confidence.
- Helping meeting new people.
- Adding structure and routine to your day.
Studies have also proved that adults/children with specific conditions for example people who suffer ADHD will benefit from the structure and routine that a pet needs, managing there pets responsibilities and keeping track of time - to feed or walk them on time for example it may also help in other areas of there life because some people that suffer from ADHD are hyperactive and playing with there pet can be a great way to release excess energy.
Pet ownership is thought to make a positive contribution to health, health behaviours and general well-being of older people. More specifically pet ownership is often proposed as a solution to the problem of loneliness in later life.
As a suffer of mental health myself I completely get this and think this is wrong in so many way I could go on forever about why I think this. Growing up with family pet made a big difference in my life with my mental health now been stuck in a flat with my own family and not been allowed to get a family pet makes me feel frustrated upset and made my mental health deteriorate witch is affecting me and my children I don’t see why people in houses or people who don’t share communal entrances are any different to people who do, we still care the same we are still the responsible owner as still has to do everything any other pet owner would do.
Along as your pet is suitable size/breed for your property and you go by the pet policy for example cleaning up after your pet regular exercise’s our tenancy should be changed as long as promised and to obey by the rules because it isn’t any different living in a flat to a house this is discrimination.
