To honor Lindsey Case: Demand improved safety measures at dangerous intersection
The Issue
Lindsey was a dedicated nurse, a loving newlywed, and a devoted new mom when her promising future was tragically taken away. On January 12, Lindsey and her 17-month-old daughter were struck by a drunk driver at a notoriously dangerous intersection right here in our community at Fork Shoals Rd and New Harrison Bridge Rd. The collision shattered a family and left Jeff, Lindsey's husband, to navigate the profound loss and raise their baby girl on his own, holding onto the precious memories of a life stolen too soon.
The intersection where this tragedy occurred is known for its low visibility and frequent accidents, posing a constant threat to all who travel through it. Despite the numerous accidents and injuries that have occurred there, little has been done to address these significant safety concerns.
We can't allow more lives to be endangered or tragically lost due to inaction. We must act now to prevent further heartache in our community. We call upon local city officials and the South Carolina Department of Transportation to immediately implement enhanced safety measures at this intersection. This includes installing improved lighting, clearer signage, and traffic calming measures such as speed bumps or roundabouts, which are proven to reduce collision risks.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), intersections account for approximately 40% of all crashes. Addressing the issues at this specific intersection isn’t just necessary—it’s urgent. Enhanced lighting can improve visibility significantly, and studies have shown that traffic calming measures can reduce the severity of accidents when they do occur.
This is a collective effort to save lives and prevent future tragedies. We owe it to Lindsey, her family, and everyone who uses these roads, to ensure they are as safe as possible. Please join us in making our streets safer for everyone by signing this petition. Together, we can make a real difference and honor Lindsey’s memory by ensuring no other family has to suffer such a devastating loss.
Sign this petition to demand action and improve safety measures at this perilous intersection.
