To have the Tuskegee Public Elementary School Gymnasium named after Coach Larry Boyd

The Issue

Larry Boyd was my Father, my friend,  my mentor and also he was and is still a man of faith, style, grace  and intellect . He could reach you where you were and wanted to impart this into all young people.  That he did through sports and academics.

Affectionately  known as Coach Boyd. He taught many sports, from basketball,  baseball to football  volleyball.

He came to Tuskegee Public in May 1977 as a young fresh face sprited man saying that I can change the world and  it starts with me. With  a strong mindset and Jesus as his pilot. He was quite impactful  for he had a vision that was given to him and along that way others were very instrumental in helping him shape young minds into soldiers for the betterment  of themselves and their  families

.Later, my father transition from that of Coach, to another kind of teacher. The world of counseling came callingwith intrigue and he accepted it  and transformed himself  from hands to minds that way and finally as you can see my father was always a student of the mind seeking to understand and reach you if he could and impart a little wisdom with an anecdote.   He made shirts like Yea What is your point? With a dog on it bulldog.  How does it make you feel?  Have you really thought it through. And the famous saying heard " Calling from the Gym "  cadence ' One two, Way Back, Two, Two, Way Back, Three Three Way Back , Four Four, Way Back, We getting shape,.

He could be hard on you but it was because  he saw something in you that was relatable,  trainable even given the proper stimuli.  I often heard him say that their is" No such thing as a No Good child' , this child needs to be reach and can because  this child has a mind, two eyes, and a mouth and hands and feet to work with great equipment.

Follows the crowd instead of having crowd come to him. The streets are no one's  friend.    A second one. There are no such things as a stupid question,  only stupid answers and how you choose to see it.

Third, Why, are you trying to fit in you should stand out. You are trying to belong. find your place. I know he said I have been  there.

You see my father was a athlete  and understood the mindset , the lesson , the motivation  and what stimulus  it took.  Also, the other stimuli as well.

Mentored a lot of children and their children. Provided them with a safe space to be themselves, taught them life skills to every boy, and girl, establish a work ethic, attitude in them. Approachable,

I stand here today 9 years after my father's passing.  Asking you to allow me to.impart this into every child, woman, and man . Who Are You? What Do You Want To Be? Let's  Get In Shape.  Greatness is in Our DNA.
