Opposition leader Matthew Guy said the rise in crime was concerning.
“This isn’t a crime wave, this is a crime tsunami,’’ he said.
“Make no mistake, these crime statistics are the result of Daniel Andrews’ cuts to police, closing of police stations, and weakening of bail laws.
“Every day Victorians are less safe because of Daniel Andrews’ cuts to frontline police and his soft touch on crime.”
THE number of offences recorded in Victoria is on the rise, with crime up by 13.4 per cent and family incidents up 10 per cent.
Crime Statistics Agency figures released today show there were 535,826 offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year to June, 2016.
The number is up 13.4 per cent on the previous year.
There were 78,012 family related incidents recorded in 2015/16, up by 10 per cent.
Crime Statistics Agency chief statistician Fiona Dowsley said while the total number of unique offenders had increased in the year, there was a drop in the number of recorded offenders under the age of 25.
“Over the last year we have seen a 4 per cent drop in the number of offenders under 25, with the greatest change seen among 15 to 19 year old offenders which dropped by 5 per cent,” Ms Dowsley said.
Offence categories that showed a significant increase were:
