Family resorts such as Butlins ,Centre parcs and Haven up their prices in and around school holidays making it a real struggle for families and for parents who take children on holiday in school time (like in my case) You have to get permission from the head teacher if you want to take your child out of school during term time. You can only do this if: you make an application to the head teacher in advance (as a parent the child normally lives with) there are exceptional circumstances in accordance with the GOV.UK website and Figures from the Department for Education (DfE) for 2017-18 show that local authorities issued 260,000 penalty notices to parents for unauthorised absences during the state school year, an increase of 110,000 compared with the previous year. Under current legislation, if your child is in an English state school aged 5-16 and they have an unauthorised absence from school during term time you may be fined £60 per child per parent, rising to £120 per child per parent if the fine is not paid within 21 days. I believe that if there is a cap on the rising cost of holidays more families will be able to afford to go on holiday and not take children out of school time.
