By this time major environmental and health damage had been done, and yet DDT usage still persists today – decades later – in places like South America, Africa, and Asia.
We've all heard the infamous quote, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result”, when we come to realize statements such as: “Please contact your elected officials, demand answers, demand a plan, demand action. Call your U.S. Senators, your Member of Congress, your State Legislators, and your Governor.” are simply sanity?
Can you recall the number of times you have seen a similar plea? What about the times you have seen a significant change produced by this line of thinking? Are our pleas even being heard? Can we really rely on our government to change the problems created by pesticide usage, or the algae bloom problems that are on a steady rise like pesticides?
Monsanto recently faced a trial in which a former Northern California school groundskeeper sued the manufacturer in regards to his terminal cancer, claiming "it wasn't about the money". Did you know he settled for $78 million instead of fighting for the $298 million the jury awarded him? His attorneys would probably agree with him as they deposited their $25+ million check for defending the plaintiff.
In the end, Monsanto/Bayer will continue polluting our environment with their Roundup and other chemicals and this court trial will be no more than a blip in their history. Even if they did pay the full $298 million it’s still just a blip and nothing will change – we believe this change will come from a grassroots movement.
