The Issue

Ten Years Later — Let’s Finish What We Started for Tiny Homes!

Let's get MOVABLE tiny houses a path to legality! Sign your name in support of Relocatable Tiny House Codes (Comment #1, Comment #2).

In 2016, thousands of us came together to make history by adding Appendix Q - Tiny Houses to the International Residential Code (IRC), giving tiny homes on foundations their first real place in building regulations. That win changed the game — but one key piece of the dream was left behind: movable tiny homes on wheels.

Back then, the rules of the code process didn’t allow us to include wheels in our proposal - but we’ve never forgotten the bigger vision.

Now, ten years later, we have the chance to bring movable tiny homes into the IRC. Martin Hammer, David Eisenberg and Andrew Morrison, the original proponents of Appendix Q (now called Appendix BB) are back, united as co-proponents of this effort, bringing experience, history, and renewed determination to the arena.

This is our chance to give movable tiny homes the same legitimacy, safety recognition, and path to legal placement that foundation-based tiny homes now enjoy.

To succeed, we need to show the International Code Council (ICC) that the public cares — and cares loudly — about a future with movable tiny homes. Your signature is more than just support, it’s proof that this is still a broad and deep housing movement.

If you believe movable tiny homes deserve a recognized, safe, and legal place in our communities, please sign and share this petition today.

Let’s finish what we started — together.

*Update 3-16-26* The last major hurdle to best prepare for this effort is funding the transportation and professional fees to show up effectively in Hartford. If you are able to help with that you can contribute to the GoFundMe. Thank you!

*Update 2-9-26* We're rolling into the next phase of this effort which is coordinated outreach and we need representation from every state. If you are willing/able to send an email to your official when the time comes, please sign up HERE. I will be then be able to send out a template email and instructions on finding your official at the right time. This will put this on their radar of the voting body ahead of the April hearing. Thank you!
