The Issue

#NoMoreWaiting

Every year in Canada, child victims of sexual offences are forced to wait years before their cases go to trial.

During this time, they are often required to revisit their trauma repeatedly, and may be expected to testify long after the abuse occurred. These delays do not just slow down justice, they extend harm.

Children deserve better.

We are calling on the Government of Canada to take immediate action to create a more trauma-informed justice system by introducing:

  • Priority scheduling for cases involving child victims of sexual offences
  • Clear timelines to reduce unnecessary court delays
  • Increased use of early-recorded testimony and testimonial supports
  • Stronger protections to prevent retraumatization in court

This reform, The Timely Justice for Child Survivors Act, is about ensuring that children are protected not only from harm, but from the systems meant to deliver justice.

Justice delayed is trauma repeated.
