For many years, Ward 84 has been the neglected ward of City of Johannesburg. Each time we go to elections, to elect a ward councilor, after 12 months we are left to fight for ourselves. 

As a resident for over 40 years, I have watch Ward 84 become nothing more than the land of Slum Lords, degrading infrastructure, Crime and death. I say that enough is now enough. 

Our latest ward councilor is a child. Only in his 20's. Since he took office in 2021, he has had more "holidays" than any civil servant, of which many have been due to "Ill Health". In December of 2022, he took leave for more than a month stating that he needed a "Mental Break" and upon his return, he said, "In this time, I had a chance to disconnect from an overly negative work environment". 

This has told the residents that not only is he too young for the role, but not competent enough to handle the pressures of being a Ward Councilor. His predesessor had left our ward in shambles. 1 example, of which the current ward councilor also did nothing about, is the shameful Kilburn bridge. Which resulted in residents turning to other parties for help. 

Some areas of Ward 84 do not even know who the ward councilor is as he has only set foot in their areas during campaigning time and no other time. 

Roodepoort North never gets any attention or service delivery. And area plagued with Slums, run by Foreign Nationals, drugs and crime. The ward Councilors have never even seen the area. 

Roodepoort Train Station is in a complete disarray. Nothing left but a shell of a building that is over 100 years old. Our councilor was there once and never again seen. 

Substations re vandelised on a daily basis. When it's reported to him, he says, "I'll see what I can do" and nothing happens. Parts of Ward 84 sit in darkness for weeks before community activists have to climb in and fix things. 

Rank 5 Taxi Rank looks more like a dump site rather than a Rank. He has been there once early in 2022. Never again was he seen. When asked to get JMPD there, he does nothing. It's the community who does his job for him.

Its time we stand up and demand that Ward 84 Councilor be removed from his post and by-elections happen as a matter of urgency. We need a councilor who will not only stand up for the community, but is willing to walk the streets of Ward 84 and actually see the dismal state that it is in. 

It had also been found out that the councilor is currently in hospital for mental illness. How can we have a ward councilor, who is not even mentally fit, at such a young age, run a ward. If he isn't mentally fit, then he should have stepped down. 

We need a councilor who will take charge and stand up to be our voice. Some one strong, mature and reliable. 

I call on you to sign this petition to have Ward 84 councilor removed and by-elections held so we can get a councilor who works for the community on the ground and not in his office.
