Dear friends of the DC History and Justice Collective,
We are so close to reaching a historic, just, and meaningful milestone in our collective effort to change the name of Woodrow Wilson High School. We thank all of you who submitted such compelling testimony and emails to the DC Council.
We have one more opportunity to make our voices heard, loud and clear: a roundtable called by DC Council Chair Phil Mendelson on Thursday, November 4, at 2:30 p.m.
We are appealing to you all to make one last push with us to get the school renamed after educators who can inspire DC students for decades to come: Edna Burke Jackson and Vincent Reed, Wilson High School’s first Black teacher and first Black principal, respectively. Both made enormous contributions to the school and to our city.
Details on how to submit testimony are here: https://dccouncil.us/event/committee-of-the-whole-public-roundtable-39/ You can either register to testify, or submit an email or statement for the record to cow@dccouncil.us. The deadline for registering to testify is November 2.
The record of the October 6 hearing, when numerous witnesses spoke against DCPS’s attempt to rename Wilson Wilson, is here: https://lims.dccouncil.us/downloads/LIMS/47293/Hearing_Record/B24-0286-Hearing_Record1.pdf
With our deepest thanks for your support and solidarity,
Judith Ingram and Tim Hannapel, Co-Founders, DC History and Justice Collective
