ICE Enforcement and Removal Field Office
333 Mt Elliott St, Detroit, MI 48207
Dear Director Adducci—
I write to respectfully but firmly request that you respond to recent legislative activity from the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security regarding their affirmative vote recommending the Department of Homeland Security review Amer Othman Adi’s immigration status and release Amer Othman Adi (A024-278-369) from the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center and ICE custody immediately.
On Friday, January 19, 2018, U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan reported the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Boarder Security voted to request the Department of Homeland Security review Mr. Adi’s immigration case. This legislative action has stayed Mr. Othman’s deportation.
A spokesperson for ICE, Khaalid Walls, reported on the record that ICE received the request from the Subcommittee in the afternoon of Friday, January 19, 2018.
Given this legislative action on Friday, January 19, 2018, it does not appear that ICE has sufficient reason to continue to detain Mr. Adi in its custody. As stated by Mr. Walls, ICE’s procedure requires a written request from a House Committee or Subcommittee Chairperson, which is reported to have been fulfilled.
Again, in your position as Director for the Detroit Office of ICE Enforcement and Removal, which includes jurisdiction over cases in Ohio, I ask that your office follow procedure and recognize the request from the U.S. House Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security and thereby release Amer Othman Adi from ICE custody.
Mr. Adi’s family, friends, and community are confident that your review of the situation will reach the just conclusion that Mr. Adi should be released and reunited with his loved ones.
