Ticket Gate needed! from Cherry Orchard Road into East Croydon station

The Issue

Thousands of residents living and working east of East Croydon station were promised by Network Rail more than a decade ago that there would be a ticket gate into the station from Cherry Orchard Road via the bridge, when Network Rail first put in their planning application.

We've waited, putting up with considerable inconvenience from all the building at the station and traffic disruption, still having to trudge up Billington Hill to the station, taking far longer than necessary and creating additional stress for people with disabilities, children, buggies, and heavy luggage.  We're still waiting.

And now, Network Rail is saying there will NOT be a ticket gate at the top of the stairs when they open it in October 2025.
Passengers will have to make our way up the stairs, funnel through the narrow entrance at the top of the stairs (top left in the picture), walk across the bridge to the far side, and then queue with people coming in from the westerly stairs to go through the ticket gate there.  And if we need platforms 5 and 6, walk all the way back across the bridge to where we started.

At rushhour, this will create a dreadful contraflow and crush at both ends, let alone unnecessary crowding on the bridge.
This plan has been opposed by many local residents and businesses, including both the Croydon West MP Sarah Jones and Croydon East MP Natasha Irons, local councillors and Mayor Perry.

Network Rail should act as a responsible and public agent
LISTEN to the community voice and
PROVIDE A TICKET GATE AT THE TOP OF THE CHERRY ORCHARD STAIRS.

WE NEED and DESERVE A TICKET GATE in CHERRY ORCHARD ROAD into EAST CROYDON STATION which has more passengers in the region other than London termini and Clapham Junction.
