As a longtime Tiburon resident, I am disappointed with the restrictions and limited areas for dogs. The local, neighborhood park on Paradise Drive, Tiburon Beach Park, doesn't allow dogs at all and Blackies pasture has no off-leash, fenced area that is appropriate. Many residents spend time out-doors with their pups and it is the only time they have to get some exercise and enjoy nature. It would be wonderful for the locals to utilize the Paradise Beach Park more and at least be allowed to visit with their dogs on leash in certain areas. This needs to be addressed to Marin County Parks, who are aware of the neighbors desire for dogs in the park.
The Town of Tiburon is responsible for Blackies Pasture, which has ample space for a fenced in area where people could let their dogs off-leash. There is no fenced-in area or designated dog park at all in Tiburon. Many dogs are fearful of other dogs on leash and have "leash aggression." As soon as they’re taken off leash, these dogs can socialize normally and run freely. Its good for the dogs and their owners. This town needs a dog park and there are a couple good spots that would work, possibly “Doyle” area, near the restrooms right off the main parking lot or near the play area which is the non-irrigated part of South knoll past the soccer field. Since the soccer field is being remodeled soon, that area might be off limits to dogs eventually. We need more spaces where dogs and their owners would feel comfortable and safe from the high-speed bikers and flow of traffic. Everyone would be positively impacted by clear-cut rules and areas for dogs leashed and unleashed. This wouldn't preclude the areas already in use at Blackies pasture where the dogs currently run freely but would be in addition to what's already in place. Please Sign.
