Justice for South African medical students who qualified in China
The Issue
South African students who qualified as medical doctors in the Peoples Republic of China are made to face misery back home.
This comes about as many of these well prepared students are supposedly 'unsuccessful' in taking the Board Examinations facilitated by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and are not given any reason as to why they were unsuccessful.
Despite the students attending various medical courses to adequately prepare them for the HPCSA exams, they're still are unsuccessful without a reason. Bear in mind that these courses are taken in South Africa and are of very high standards.
South Africa currently faces a shortage of 66 000 Doctors, yet foreign qualified SA students are being rejected and made to remain unemployed. 6 years to study abroad and to come home to serve your country but only to be rejected is certainly demoralizing. Students are being forced to emigrate to other countries to offer their needed services.
China and RSA share such good relations. Both nations highly respect one another. The university (Shandong University - School of Medicine) is also an internationally highly respected research university. China, a world superpower, has internationally comparable standards and produce competent doctors.
There are currently hundreds of affected students who need your support to bring about a change to this system and to their lives.
Thank you.
