THINK!!! Plastic/foam polystyrene packaging, is it a good idea?

The Issue

While we are all planting trees and driving electric vehicles to lower our carbon footprint, we are drowning in plastic. From toys to printers to flat-packed furniture this awful polystyrene packaging is present as protection for the products. Although it works extremely well and is very light and cost effective, it is very bad for us and the eco-system.

This includes all other plastic based packaging, in our supermarkets when we buy food ie: fruit it is wrapped in a plastic non recyclable single use bag, they sometimes have a foam tray as well. but its not just fruit and vegetables that are suffering, bottled drinks, yoghurts, cheese, meat, snacks such as crisps and ready made sandwiches, ready meals, biscuits, and just about anything you can think of. this packaging is not only bad for the environment but a pain to dispose of for the consumer.

Polystyrene is especially bad as animals don't see it as inedible, think about it, if a fish eats some of it not only does it harm the fish but in turn when you eat the fish it harms you not to mention the micro plastics. Furthermore, countries such as France and Costa Rica have taken decisive steps forward by banning these harmful materials, setting precedents for the rest of the world to follow. The UK's leadership in environmental initiatives could be solidified with such a ban, showcasing our commitment to sustainability and inspiring other nations to take similar action.

Copious evidence and public support show that a ban would be beneficial for our environment and economy. Businesses could see a positive shift by adopting greener materials that appeal to the growing environmentally-conscious consumer base.

Now is the time to act. by signing this petition, you are calling on the uk Government to implement a national ban on polystyrene and foam/plastic packaging through DEFRA. Together, we can protect our planet and future generations  and build a sustainable future. let's make a change please sign the petition now!!
