Think Before You Prompt: A Petition for Responsible AI Use in creating Literary assignment
The Issue
Statement of Purpose: We, as students, educators, and community advocates, are calling on school administrators and local educational institutions to urgently change and choose a better educational pathway for students. We firmly believe that by promoting a proper utilization of Artificial Intelligence can lead to a students’ enhanced creative imagination, critical thinking, and growth. We also believe that Artificial Intelligence must be used to support the learning and development of students’ ideas—not the one hindering it. As an advocate, we uphold the values that humans must have control of Artificial Intelligence and not the other way around. Through this petition, we aim to promote awareness, proper guidance, and responsible Artificial Intelligence use in schools, specifically in creating literary assignments. With this step towards change, we can ensure that students can benefit from using technology while still being able to maintain and develop their own creativity and skills.
Why This Issue Matters: The proper utilization of Artificial Intelligence is critical today because as these tools become integrated into daily education and work, improper use poses severe risks to academic integrity, critical thinking, and data privacy. Learning to use Artificial Intelligence responsibly ensures that technology acts as a supportive aid for learning and productivity rather than a shortcut that replaces human effort and original thought. By promoting responsible AI practices, we can encourage use these tools ethically, critically evaluate AI generated information, and remain accountable for the work they produce. This issue matters because the goal is not to reject AI, but to ensure that students continue to be the thinkers, creators, and decision makers behind their work.
Call to Action: We urgently call upon students, teachers, school administrators, and local educational institutions to take action by:
Promoting Responsible AI Use: Encouraging students to use Artificial Intelligence as a guide for learning and improving their works rather than replacing their own thoughts and creativity.
Establishing Clear Guidelines in Utilizing AI: Providing students with clear instructions on when and how AI can be used in writing for schoolwork while still maintaining academic integrity.
Fostering Originality and Creativity: Building an environment where students are encouraged to write, think, and express their own ideas instead of being overly dependent on AI.
Strengthening AI Literacy: Helping students understand how to use AI responsibly and how to avoid possible consequences when they submit an AI generated work as their own.
Encouraging Students to Think Before They Prompt: Reminding students to ask themselves, “Is AI really helping me learn, or is it doing the learning for me?” before using AI to do their whole schoolwork.
Sign this petition today. Let us work together to create an educational environment where Artificial Intelligence is simply a tool for learning, while no student's creativity, ideas, or voice is ever replaced.
