Dear Supporters, First, some good news about 76 year old Grandpa Kamal, with a twist. After five long years in Evin prison without any medical information, we recently received limited results from his 29 May medical which suggest he is doing OK. However, the results of many standard and cancer-specific tests were missing. It is not clear whether Iran did not perform these tests or the tests were done and the results were deliberately withheld from us. This is an improvement from past silence but still worrying! Unfortunately, there is no sign that Grandpa Kamal has been released for Ramadan, even though we were previously told he was on the Supreme Leader’s clemency list. A few weeks ago during our family calls there was hope in Grandpa Kamal’s voice; this week we could hear it ebbing away. Today Wednesday is EidulFitr in Iran, a national holiday to celebrate the end of Ramadan. The Iranian leaders will be spending time with their loved ones. Our family will not – and we miss Grandpa Kamal terribly. We have just sent Tweets to the Supreme Leader and other Iranian leaders, reminding them of their responsibilities to the powerless and asking once again that they free Grandpa Kamal. Finally, the Ratcliffe and Foroughi families had a lovely candlelight vigil opposite Downing Street last week in honour of our loved ones Nazanin and Grandpa Kamal. About 200 of you turned up during the evening - it was wonderful to meet so many of you after all this time! Many more of you sent kind messages and photos of your own candlelight vigils and prayers.
