Dear Supporters, Today Theresa May has taken over from David Cameron as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She has just appointed Boris Johnson as new UK Foreign Secretary, replacing Philip Hammond. Let us hope that our new Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary are more successful at freeing 76 year old Grandpa Kamal. This Saturday is the 6 month anniversary of Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian and 4 other US citizens’ release from Evin prison. It is also the 1,900 day (!) anniversary of Grandpa Kamal’s detention in Evin prison – with no sign of a release. I appreciate I am asking a lot, but I have three requests for you: 1. Please email the new UK Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary about Grandpa Kamal Please email Theresa May and Boris Johnson directly at mayt@parliament.uk & boris.johnson.mp@parliament.uk and ask that they make the release of British citizens 76 year old Grandpa Kamal and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe held in Evin Prison the number 1 priority for the UK government in its dealings with Iran. 2. Please email EU Foreign Affairs Lead Federica Mogherini Please email the EU Foreign Affairs Lead Federica Mogherini directly at federica.mogherini@ec.europa.eu , thank her for the EU’s support to date (remember she stated last month that Grandpa Kamal’s detention is of the utmost concern to the EU) and ask that the EU makes freeing Grandpa Kamal and other EU citizens the number 1 priority for the European Union in its dealings with Iran. 3. If you live in the UK, please email your Member of Parliament Please email your Member of Parliament (MP) and ask them to write to the new UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, expressing strong concern about Grandpa Kamal’s and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s detentions in Iran. (Even if you have written to your MP before, please write again given we have a new Foreign Secretary.) You should include your name and address in your email to show you are a constituent. Please ask your MP that when they write their letters to Boris Johnson to please cc my MP Oliver Dowden and Richard Ratcliffe’s MP Tulip Siddiq who are coordinating parliamentary efforts for our campaigns to free our loved ones.
