I am a student at Wixom Elementary, and like many of my peers, I sometimes get overwhelmed with schoolwork. The pressure can be intense, making it hard to think clearly. I've always believed that having a therapy dog in our school would help students like me calm down and focus better on our studies.

Therapy dogs have been proven to reduce stress and anxiety in various settings, including schools. According to the American Kennel Club, therapy dogs can significantly decrease levels of Cortisol - the body's primary stress hormone - among students (American Kennel Club). This not only helps improve mental health but also enhances academic performance by creating a more conducive learning environment.

The introduction of a therapy dog program for the 5th grade at Wixom Elementary could make an enormous difference in the lives of students who are struggling with stress and anxiety. It's time we take this step towards improving mental health support in our school system.
