The Day I Became an American 🇺🇸

There are photographs that capture a moment, and then there are photographs that hold an entire journey. This one holds mine. 🇺🇸

I remember sitting in that room, surrounded by people from different corners of the world, and feeling something that is difficult to put into words.

I was becoming an American.

For me, those words were never ordinary.

My story began far from here. I was born in Transylvania, and my journey eventually brought me to a country that I would one day be privileged to call my own.

So when I look at the woman in this photograph, I don’t just see myself smiling at a camera.

I see every mile that brought her there.

I see the girl she once was, the woman she became, the family she would fight fiercely for, and the life she was still building.

And I see gratitude.

Because on that day, America was no longer simply the country where I lived.

It became my country.

I understood that citizenship wasn’t only something I was receiving. It was something I wanted to honor with gratitude, responsibility, service, and the courage to use my voice when something needed to change.

Years have passed since this photograph was taken, and life has given me victories, heartbreaks, battles I never expected to fight, and reasons to become braver than I ever imagined.

But through all of it, one thing has never changed:

I am profoundly proud to be an American.

Not because I believe a country must be perfect to be loved, but because I believe in the extraordinary promise that ordinary people can belong here, build here, serve here, speak here, dream hereand leave something better for the generation that follows them.

On September 19  I raised my hand and became a citizen of the United States of America.

I thought that day was the end of a long journey.

Looking back now, I realize it was the beginning of another.

And I will never stop being grateful that this country became home. 🇺🇸❤️

Somewhere in this photograph is a woman who had no idea how many times she would be called upon to find her courage.

But she was ready.
